Edith Lambelle Langerfeld,〔US Passport Application August 9, 1900〕 mostly known as La Sylphe, was an exotic American dancer〔"New Dancer For Keith & Proctor", ''New York Times'', July 1, 1908, pg. 7.〕 who became a sensation while performing at the Folies Bergère in the 1890s.〔"'A Salome Epidemic Now", ''San Antonio Daily Express'', August 30, 1908, pg. 17.〕 ==Parents== Edith Lambelle Langerfeld was born on July 3, 1883〔〔Social Security Death Index〕 at New York City, the daughter of Arthur (1855-1931)〔http://www.loc.gov/pictures/item/ncl2004001182/PP/〕 and Margaret Douglas Langerfeld.〔Langerfeld Family Tree〕 Her father was German, born at Elberfeld in Nordrhein-Westfalen,〔 not far from the city of Düsseldorf, while her mother came from Loughgall, a small town that lay a few miles north of Armagh in Northern Ireland.〔US Passport Application October 28, 1915〕 The Library of Congress has in their collection a photograph of Arthur Langerfeld with one of the machines he invented for use in the mining of coal.〔
